2008 Meeting Dates !

This is the list of meetings for 2008,  for advertising purposes and for flyers, it
was necessary to set these dates up this year !

Mark them down on your calendar !

May 3 Mercury, Mars, Saturn & ETA Aquarid meteor shower.
May 31 Mars & Saturn.
 June 28 Mars & Saturn.
August 1 Mars, Saturn, Jupiter & Neptune.
August 30 Mars, Saturn, Jupiter & Neptune.
September 27 Mercury, Venus Mars, Jupiter Neptune Uranus.
October 25 Venus, Jupiter, Neptune & Uranus.

Along with all the above highlights, you can always count on all the wonderful deep space objects that are available for viewing year round.

Star Parties are loads of  fun,  we have a good time with the scopes and the fellowship of being out in the fresh air, surrounded by friends and hopefully clear skies.   Some scopes have computer aided alignment and some don't.  Depending on your astronomy knowledge,  you can actually find quite a lot of objects in the sky without a computer.  Of course,  you will find more with some sort of computer hooked up to the telescope.

Here are a few BASIC things to think about when going to a star party.

DRESS PROPERLY !   Quite often what you are comfortable wearing at early evening is NOT going to be enough for later that night.  The cool or COLD damp air goes right through you when your just standing on the ground.  Comfortable warm shoes are most desirable.

Chair - A comfy chair is nice when your looking up with Binos or just gazing for the meteor streaks through the sky.
You may want to bring a thermos of coffee to warm you up.

BUG SPRAY - During the summer,  this is a very important accessory to have handy !

PLEASE NOTE -
All dates are USUALLY on a Saturday evening, unless otherwise noted.
The makeup day, due to bad weather or clouds, will be the following Saturday.

DIRECTIONS TO BALL FIELDS AT BRADY'S RUN PARK  -  BEAVER COUNTY :

From Route 60,  take the Chippewa Exit (Route 51) and go SOUTH.  You will go approximately 1.5 miles and the park entrance will be on your RIGHT.  There is a TRAFFIC LIGHT at that intersection and you will see the BRADY'S RUN PARK sign at the entrance of the park road.

From Route 51,  enter Brady's Run Park,  proceed past the Ice Arena (that is on your left),  then make the first RIGHT turn,  go up the hill  (watch the road - it winds),  then make the first RIGHT hand turn that you can make on that road.   This road takes you right up into the ball field area.   Normally,  we are setup up in the lower gravel parking lot area to the right as you pass the first 2 fields on the right.

TIME :     An hour or so before dusk till whenever....  often we are there till 1,2,3 am !   Try to be there in time to setup !
There will be a brief business meeting BEFORE EACH PARTY,  so please get there on time !
