STARPARTY - April 28 - 2001
Some highlights of the evening were:SOLAR VIEWING - We had a lot of fun checking out our sun and the many sunspots that were very visible, there is quite a lot of spot activity lately, a real treat to see. PLANET VIEWING - Planets are going over the horizon fairly quickly lately, so you must BE READY for them and be in a good area for the coverage as they drop over the horizon. We all got to enjoy views of Jupiter and a fussy Saturn before they dropped out of sight. MOON SHOTS ! - No...... there was none of that, but we did get to enjoy the wonderful and LARGEST target in the sky, our moon.... yes, even Starhunter can find this one ! PARTIAL MESSIER MARATHON - No doubt, we had a blast finding the faint fuzzies in the wonderful sky glow and moonlit sky. Finding some of these Magnitude 10 & 11 objects were quite tricky, unless you have an LX200 with GOTO !!! That proved to be the winner HANDS DOWN ! The ones that we managed to record were about 28 total, plus a few other NGC objects. It was a lot of fun folks ! MIKES CHAIR - Yes, we got to enjoy Mike and his new astronomy chair. Mike demonstrated how to EJECT quickly to the ground. Luckily he had his parachute deployed ! MARS - Some of us stayed just long enough to catch a view of Mars, soaking in the sky glow of the night. None the less, it was a treat. FIREBALLS - A few of the members reported seeing some rather impressive displays of meteor activity. All in all, it was a nice night, good fellowship, and all around fun - we had a nice array of scopes there for viewing........ if you were there, THANKS FOR COMING ! If not, TRY TO BE THERE NEXT MONTH and don't forget your scope !!!
