This club was founded by 4 friends with a common interest, astronomy. Serious types ? NOT HARDLY ! We do more joking and digging at each other, ask anyone that has seen us 4 acorns together !
WE HAVE FUN ! That is what IT'S about !
We really look forward to having star parties so we can enlighten our visitors with astronomy and what can be seen with a telescope. We often meet together as friends for a night under the stars with our telescopes at one of our homes or other locations......... we are not just casual star party observers. Quite often our telescopes are out in the morning skies before it is time to go to work for glimpse of the planets or other objects, or we are out in the evenings before it's time to hit the sack, grabbin a eyeful of light through the eyepiece. There is something quite satisfying about viewing through a telescope up at the heavens. You can see pictures of the planets in text books or TV, but there is something very special about looking at Saturn and her rings through a telescope with your very own eye...... quite often we are asked if we had a picture in there as if we were playing a trick......... nope, not a trick........ just what a bit of magnification can do.
We also enjoy experimenting and modifying equipment to achieve better performance, it is an educational experience.
Astronomy is a blast, you don't have to learn every detail about every object in the sky. Personally, that is why I have a computer on my telescope, so I don't HAVE to learn, only what I want to learn. It is a hobby, not a job. It is fun and should not be work. It should be relaxing, not aggravating.
We now have our own web server that we are paying for on a yearly basis that provides us with plenty of web space, emails for all our membership, our own domain name address and NO BANNER ADS or POP UP WINDOWS on our pages, everyone knows how annoying that can get. So, we are on the way -- we are here to stay.
As for our equipment, we have an array of scopes. From a small refractor to a large 14" SCT. We have in our membership, AstroVIDEO and AstroCCD capabilities.
