The Hardware
This is a conference camera
that outputs standard TV video
signal. I adapted it to the telescope using a standard 1.25" barrel from an old eyepiece that I used epoxy to mount it to the camera itself. I hook it up directly to a
monitor that has video input jacks and
have a Y adapter to hook it up to
my video camera as well. I use the
monitor to center object as well as focus it before turning on the video camera.
Picture above is the camera in the
homemade mount. The photo below is the
camera mounted on my Ultima 11 scope,
on a Williams Optics focuser.
This setup
allows me to use any of my eyepieces
for various magnifications that you can see the results below.
The photos below are not near as nice as popping the tape in the VCR and watching my captured video on my TV. I have a 26" TV and to see Saturn that is 12" long on the screen is quite
impressive. The division in the ring is quite visible as well as the many bands on Jupiter.
I have also captured the passing shadow of a moon of Jupiter and the shadow is quite obvious on the planet surface.
